Mud therapy comprises four main steps: mud application, bath in ozone-enhanced thermal water, perspiration reaction and therapeutic massage.
Mud application
Mud is applied to the area under treatment at a temperature of about 37-38°C and left on for about 20 minutes. Mud application is carried out only by expert mud therapists according to medical directions that defines treatment type and duration.
Shower and bath in ozone-enhanced thermal water
The patient takes a cleansing shower and then lies in a tub with thermal water (37°C) for 8-10 minutes.
Therapeutic massage
The massage is truly therapeutic in that it enhances tone and stimulates the skin and muscles, significantly amplifying the mud’s therapeutic effects.
A complete mud therapy cycle normally consists of 12 applications, one daily, to be taken before breakfast in the early hours of the morning.
During therapy, patients are recommended to increase their liquid intake and to moderate the use of spirits. Patients can also continue taking any medical drugs unless indicated otherwise by the physician.
Mud therapy is contraindicated for several specific diseases and during pregnancy.
